Recognizing the value of the modeler's time the revised and improved PROTO 2000 kit now features an even shorter assembly time (less than 1 hour). LifeLike has done the most time consuming part of the assembly for you. The revised kit now features painted and formed WIRE grab irons. The UNDERBODY DETAIL HAS BEEN PREASSEMBLED into a sub-assembly for easier, quicker completion of the model. Coupler installation has been improved with screw-mounted couplers and covers making it quick and easy to finish assembly and get'em rolling.

 Built with a 70-ton capacity beginning in 1940, railroads quickly discovered the multi-function capabilities of this car. Originally designed to haul structural steel, railroads found that with its ends dropped down flat, the car could be loaded with items much longer than its length. They were used not only for steel mill products but to haul steel fabrications such as tanks, bridge girders, machinery of all types, pilings and telephone poles, and even the occasional load of boats.
